April 5 (SeeNews) - The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) announced that six bidders have been shortlisted in Albania's tender for providing consultancy services for a project for the rehabilitation of a 120-kilometre railway line connecting Vore in central Albania to Hani i Hotit at the border with Montenegro.

The shortlisted engineering consultants are: a consortium comprising Turkey's Antinok and India's Rites; Denmark's Cowi, Italy's IRD Engineering, Italy's Italferr, a tie-up of Italy’s Net Engineering and Idom Consulting Engineering Architecture, and a tie-up between Greece’s Salfo and Associates, Systema Consulting, and Albania’s Hill International, the EBRD said in a notice earlier this week.

The EBRD is co-financing the project with a 99-million euro ($107 million) loan. The European Union is extending a 100-million euro loan through the European Investment Bank (EIB), and a 126 million euro grant through the Western Balkans Investment Bank (WBIF), EIB has said.

The Vore - Hani i Hotit line is Albania’s sole railway connection to neighbouring countries. It is part of the EU's Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), involving railways, inland waterways, short sea shipping routes, and roads to connect urban hubs, ports, airports, and terminals.
