SES ASTRA Enters Deal with Bulgaria’s Neterra To Provide Satellite Services in SEE

SOFIA (Bulgaria), December 11 (SeeNews) – Luxembourg-based satellite system operator SES ASTRA said on Friday it has entered into a partnership with Bulgarian telecom operator Neterra to offer satellite distribution services to broadcasters in Bulgaria and elsewhere in Southeastern Europe.

SES ASTRA operates the ASTRA satellite system, offering a comprehensive portfolio of broadcast and broadband solutions for customers in Europe and beyond.

Neterra will use capacity on SES ASTRA satellite network to provide broadcasters with solution to deliver their content to cable and terrestrial head-ends in the region. The services will be uplinked from Neterra’s teleport in Sofia and include multiplexing, encoding and encryption of the signal.

The first broadcaster to use the service is the Bulgarian channel TV7.

The new satellite service provided by Neterra and SES ASTRA optimized for contribution purposes will definitely improve the quality and the variety of TV channels available to cable homes, Neterra CEO Neven Dilkov said.

In a highly fragmented market, our partnership will provide broadcasters with a turnkey solution to deliver their signals to multiple households in the region,” SES ASTRA said in a statement.

SES ASTRA (www.ses-astra.com) is a subsidiary of Societe Europeenne des Satellites and provides Direct-to-Home (DTH) satellite system throughout Europe. The combined satellite system delivers services to more than 122 million DTH and cable households and transmits more than 2,500 analogue and digital television and radio channels.
