December 17 (SeeNews) - Serbian wireless carrier Vip Mobile, a unit of Telekom Austria Group, said on Wednesday it plans to invest 27 million euro ($33.7 million) in the upgrade and expansion of its network in 2015.
The investment spending will target expanding the coverage of the 3G network and making preparations for the introduction of 4G services, the company said in a statement.
Vip Mobile, which had a subscriber base of 2.06 million at the end of September, will deploy over 450 base stations next year while modernising equipment at over 800 locations across the country.
Vip Mobile invested 23 million euro in network upgrade in 2014, modernising its 2G and 3G networks at over 550 locations in 21 towns and cities. The company set up this year over 350 new 2G and 3G base stations along the main roads and in smaller towns across the country.
Vip Mobile has so far invested 827 million euro in its operations in Serbia.
In Serbia, a market of around 7.2 million, Vip Mobile competes on the mobile services segment with state-owned MTS and the local arm of Norway's Telenor.
