BELGRADE (Serbia), December 12 (SeeNews) – Serbia's prime minister Ivica Dacic said on Wednesday a possible decision of the European Council to propose to open entry talks with his country in the first half of 2013 if Belgrade keeps pace with reforms and makes sufficient progress in relations with Kosovo is good news, Serbian media reported.

Serbia's PM sees EU Council's position on entry talks as good news - media

Serbia, after a number of years, has received a positive opinion from the European Union, with great prospects to start accession negotiations next spring, Tanjug (www.tanjug.rs) news agency quoted Dacic as saying.

Serbia has never been closer to the EU and has never had the support of almost all the countries within the bloc, Dacic added.

“A visible and sustainable improvement in relations between Serbia and Kosovo is needed so that both can continue on their respective European paths, while avoiding that either can block the other in these efforts,” the European Council said in a report posted on its website after EU foreign ministers met on Tuesday to discuss further expansion.

The European Council said it would examine Serbia's progress in spring 2013.
