Serbia's parl approves 2020 budget, targets 0.3%/GDP deficit

BELGRADE (Serbia), November 28 (SeeNews) – Serbia's parliament has approved the next year's budget, targeting a deficit of 20.2 billion dinars ($192 million/172 million euro) equivalent to 0.3% of the projected gross domestic product (GDP), the government said on Thursday.

The 2020 budget envisages revenues of 1.314 trillion dinars, expenses of 1.335 trillion dinars and GDP growth of 4%, the government said in a statement.

A total of 295.4 billion dinars will be allocated for salaries in the public sector, while the expenses for pensions will amount to 581.2 billion dinars.

Moreover, the budget envisages record-high spending for capital investments of approximately 260 billion dinars, in order to stimulate additional GDP growth, the government said.

Serbia's budget was in surplus of 46.6 billion dinars in the first eight months of 2019, compared to a surplus of 36.8 billion dinars in the prior-year period, according to the most recent finance ministry data.

Serbia's budget balance showed a surplus of 32.2 billion dinars in 2018, compared to a surplus of 33.9 billion dinars in 2017.
