Serbia's January-August Trade Gap Widens 42% to $8.232 Bln

September 30 (SeeNews) - Serbia's trade deficit for the first eight months of 2008 rose by 42% year-on-year to $8.232 billion (5.758 billion euro), the country’s statistics office said on Tuesday.

Exports through August were 39% higher on the year at $7.724 billion, while imports rose by 40.3% to $15.956 billion, the statistics office said in a statement posted on its website.

In August alone, Serbia's trade balance showed a deficit of $839 million, up from $723 million a year earlier.

Serbia's trade deficit rose by 41.2% to $9.526 billion last year.
