BELGRADE (Serbia), December 24 (SeeNews) – Serbian state-owned power producer Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) has put into operation an 18 megawatt (MW) biomass-fired heating plant within the thermal power plant (TPP) Sremska Mitrovica, the local government said.

Serbia's EPS launches 18 MW biomass heating plant in Sremska Mitrovica

The plant is run by EPS’s regional arm, Panonske Termoelektrane-Toplane, the Vojvodina provincial government said in a statement on its website on Friday.

Renewable projects for eight heating plants in as many municipalities are under way in Vojvodina, the local government's president Bojan Pajtic said during the official launch ceremony. They will allow the province to utilise 3.0 million tonnes of biomass annually, as each project goes together with the launch of a pellet plant that will open 50 to 100 jobs and will cut the cost of heating power between 20% and 40%, he added.

TPP Sremska Mitrovica is one of the three branches of the electric and thermal energy producer Panonske Termoelektrane-Toplane. The other two are located in the city of Novi Sad and the town of Zrenjanin.

Sremska Mitrovica is located in northwestern Serbia.
