Serbia's annual inflation slows to 6.4% y/y in Jan

February 19 (SeeNews) - Serbia's consumer prices rose by 6.4% year-on-year in January, after increasing by an annual 7.6% in December, the statistical office said on Monday.

On a monthly comparison basis, Serbia's consumer price index (CPI) grew by 0.3% in January, after rising by 0.1% in December, the statistical office said in a statement.

In January 2024, the largest price increases compared to the previous year were seen in healthcare services, rising by 9.7%. Following closely behind were restaurant and hotel services, with a 9.6% increase, and recreation and cultural activities, which saw an 8.6% rise. Additionally, costs related to housing, water, and energy increased by 8.4%. Prices for household equipment and maintenance went up by 8.2%, while clothing and footwear saw a 7.4% increase. Food and non-alcoholic beverages experienced a 7.2% price hike, and the prices of alcohol and tobacco rose by 6.4%.

On a monthly comparison basis, prices of housing, water and energy rose by 4.7% in January, restaurant and hotel services by 4.6% and healthcare services were up 4.2%
