Serbian Shares Slip Further as Blue-Chip Index Hits All-Time Intraday Low

“Nothing can be said for today’s session. Investor interest is still lacking,” a local broker told SeeNews.

After falling to a fresh all-time low of 535.76 during Wednesday's session, the blue-chip BELEX15 index rallied to close only 0.57% down at 539.18 points after dropping 1.63% on Tuesday. The index has lost some 76% since the beginning of the year due to increased risk aversion among investors fuelled by the global financial crisis.

The composite BELEXline index fell 0.41% to 1,186.21 points, while the joint SRX index of the bourses in Belgrade and Vienna was down 0.61% to 245.49.

Total BELEX turnover fell to some 125 million dinars ($1.7 million/1.4 million euro) from 228 million dinars on Tuesday.

Chemicals and pharmaceuticals producer Dahlia closed unchanged at 410 dinars in 35.5 million dinars of turnover, the highest for Wednesday and achieved in a single transaction. Insurer Takovo Osiguranje, which also closed flat, at 4,080 dinars, recorded the second highest BELEX turnover of 8.2 million dinars.

Blue-chip engineering holding company Energoprojekt dropped 0.72% to 690 dinars in 3.6 million dinars of turnover, third largest for the day.

Losers outnumbered gainers on Wednesday 23 to 18 as 28 shares closed unchanged.
