October 3 (SeeNews) - Serbia's government said on Tuesday it received the first two MiG-29 fighter aircraft out of six jets donated by Russia.
The other four fighter jets will be delivered to Serbia by Friday, the Serbian government said in a statement.
The two MiG-29s were transported to Batajnica air base, near Belgrade, by an Antonov An-124 airlift jet, the government said.
In December, the government in Belgrade said Russia had agreed to donate six MiG-29 fighter jets to Serbia's Air Force. Moscow had also agreed to extend to 14 years the service life of the Serbian Air Force fleet of Russian-made MiG-29s, including the donated aircraft.
Serbia maintains close political ties with Russia and refuses to join the Western economic sanctions against Moscow. The country is holding EU accession talks but unlike other Western Balkan states, it does not aspire to join NATO.
