The project is aimed at stabilising and extending the Duboko landfill, plus building facilities for biogas collection and treatment, among others, the EBRD said in a statement on Friday.
Potential bidders face a June 24 deadline to submit their offers, the statement read.
The Duboko landfill revamp is part of a bigger project worth a total of 150 million euro ($162 million), aimed at upgrading the waste management systems in six locations across Serbia in line with European Union standards. The other five locations are Kalenic (central Serbia), Sombor (northern Serbia), Nova Varos (western Serbia), Pirot (south-eastern Serbia) and Sremska Mitrovica (north-western Serbia).
Back in December 2021, when the project was first revealed, the EBRD said it was co-financing it on 50:50 basis along with the French development agency AFD.
The project is expected to contribute to reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of 282,433 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year and result in significant health and environmental benefits. It also includes the development of a multi-regional primary sorting system (i.e. purchase of containers and waste collection vehicles) within several solid waste regions and related technical consultancy services for supporting the project implementation and works supervision, the EBRD has said.
