BELGRADE (Serbia), November 25 (SeeNews) – Serbian state-owned company Infrastruktura Zeleznice Srbije said it has launched a 3.4 million euro ($3.7 million) project for reconstruction of the railway line linking the town of Kikinda to the factory of state-run chemicals group MSK.
The works include the replacement of the old track grating on wooden sleepers, non-standard rails and track gauge by concrete sleepers and a new grate curtain, the railway infrastructure company said in an e-mailed statement on Sunday.
Upon completion of the project, the speed of trains will be lifted to 50 km/h from the current 10 km/h and the axle load capacity will be increased to 22.5 tonnes per axle from 16 tonnes at present, the company said.
Infrastruktura Zeleznice Srbije will finance the project entirely from its own funds.
Last month, the managing director of Infrastruktura Zeleznice Srbije, Miroljub Jevtic, said the company plans to overhaul regional railway lines with a total length of 318 km in 2019.
