The second phase of the project is expected to start in April and to last one year, Mihajlovic said in a statement on Saturday.

"We are in talks with the Kuwaiti fund which financed the first phase of the Prokop project and we expect to sign agreements for the second phase soon," Mihajlovic said.

In October, the infrastructure ministry said that the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) was ready to provide funding for the second phase of the project. KFAED participated in the first phase of the project and considers that Serbia is one of its best partners globally, the infrastructure ministry said.

The first phase of the reconstruction of the railway station was carried out by the Serbian blue-chip civil engineering group Energoprojekt [BEL:ENHL] and was completed in January 2016, according to data from the company's website.
