The number of passengers sailing onboard river cruise ships is seen rising 10% to 200,000 this year, Petrovic said in a press release last week after he signed a 3.4 million euro contract for the construction of an international passenger port at the northern village of Banostor, located on the river Danube.

Serbia at present has 10 international ports - seven on the Danube and three of the Sava river. Three of the ports were opened last year, while three more - at Veliko Gradiste, Sremski Karlovci and Apatin (all three situated on the Danube), will be opened in the coming period, the agency said.

In 2023, more than 183,000 tourists visited Serbia on cruises, up 35% compared to 2022.
