April 2 (SeeNews) - Serbia began the construction of a 3.8 million euro ($4.1 million) marina on the Danube in the eastern town of Veliko Gradiste, the country's infrastructure minister said.
The docking facility is scheduled for completion in April next year and will be the country's first registered marina, infrastructure minister Goran Vesic said in a Facebook post on Monday.
Vesic said that in the meantime Serbia will begin the construction of a marina in Golubac and plans to build marinas in Smederevo, Kladovo, Sombor and near the Ram fortress. Passenger ports have already been built in Sremska Mitrovica and Sabac.
In April, Serbia’s government said it will invest 28 million euro ($30.6 million) in the development of river transport infrastructure across the country as part of the Sail Through Serbia government initiative.
