The call is for airlines which plan to open a base at the airport and introduce new direct flights to strategic destinations or long-haul flights, the Tourism Association of the Sarajevo Canton said in a tender published earlier this week.
Interested airlines can apply to the call by December 28.
Last week, Sarajevo International Airport said that the Tourism Association of the Sarajevo Canton had selected Hungarian Wizz Air, Irish Ryanair, and Turkish SunExpress in the initial tender for subsidies, which was launched in November. The new call does not provide reasons for the relaunch of the tender.
Passenger numbers at the Sarajevo International Airport surged to 1.38 million in 2022, compared with 767,134 passengers served a year earlier. Bosnia and Herzegovina has three other international airports, located in Banja Luka, Tuzla and Mostar.
The Sarajevo Canton is one of ten cantons making up the Federation, one of two autonomous entities that form Bosnia and Herzegovina. The other entity is the Serb Republic.
