On August 25, Rovinj recorded its three-millionth overnight stay, while tourist arrivals topped last year's figure by 12% at 490,000, the tourism board said in a statement.
Year-to-date, Rovinj has mostly been visited by tourists from Germany, with a share of 30% and up 19% on the year. Tourists from Austria followed with a share of 14%, up 11% year-on-year, while Italians held a share of 11%, up 4% on 2016.
Guests from the Netherlands had a share of 8% and from Slovenia a share of 5%.
Among other markets, the highest increase was recorded in the number of visitors from Sweden (+39%), Poland (+30%), USA (+ 29%), Russia (+25%).
The highest number of overnight stays was recorded in campsites, a 49% share and up 13% on the year. Hotels and resorts followed with a 25% share, up 8%, while private accommodation held a 21% share, up 12 %.
In 2016, Rovinj recorded 3.5 million overnight stays, while this year the number is expected to hit some 4 million.
