September 4 (SeeNews) - The Romanian state railways company, CFR, will call a new tender for the upgrade of the railway station in the western city of Timisoara in the second half of the year, to be financed through a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the international lender said on Friday.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, there is a need to re-tender the works at Timisoara railway station,” the EBRD said in a statement. The bidding is open to firms from any country.
CFR had applied for a loan to cover the costs of the project with an original etimated value of 24 million euro ($34 million) to upgrade five main city railway stations: Cluj-Napoca, Iasi, Constanta, Craiova and Timisoara, it said.
The upgrades of Cluj-Napoca and Iasi railway stations are completed; those in Constanta and Craiova are to be completed in the second half of this year.
