Four Romanian political formations crossed the 5% threshold for entry into the EP, according to preliminary official results posted on the EU electoral website at 2325 CET on Sunday.
Far-right populist nationalist Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) took the second place on 15% of votes, whereas centre-right opposition Union Save Romania (USR) garnered 11% of the votes, placing third.
Hungarian minority party UDMR placed fourth, making it into the EP with 5% of the vote.
Turnover stood at 52.41%, according to preliminary data.
Romania currently has 33 MEPs and will send the same number of representatives to the next European Parliament. To win a seat, political parties, coalitions or minority organisations must secure at least 5% of all valid votes. Independent candidates must secure a number of votes equal to the total number of valid votes cast divided by the number of MEP mandates assigned to Romania.
