”The Romanian PC market continued to grow at a fast pace in the second quarter of 2008 in terms of both shipments and value, albeit not as rapidly as in previous quarters," IDC said in a statement, providing no figures.
The notebook segment expanded by 49.0% in volume and accounted for 37.9% of the total market, while the desktop segment grew by 18.7% year on year, the IDC said.
Dell, HP, and K-Tech were the top three vendors in the second quarter of 2008, accounting for one-third of all PC shipments in Romania.
“We expect the consumer market to gain momentum in coming quarters, driven by the introduction of new brand models, especially low-cost notebooks targeting the low entry segment," Diana Preda, research analyst at IDC Romania, said in the statement.
"Demand for commercial PCs will also continue to expand, backed by exceptional results in Romania’s economic growth, public investments in the government and education sectors, and organic growth in the SMB [small and medium-size business] sector."
