Romania's private pension funds end-Aug assets up 49% y/y

September 20 (SeeNews) - The net assets under the management of Romania's private pension funds rose 49% on the year to 9.04 billion lei ($2.6 billion/2.0 billion euro) at the end of August, the country's private pension system regulator said on Thursday.

The funds' assets grew by 3.4% compared to the end of July, the Private Pension System Supervisory Commission, CSSPP, said in its monthly bulletin.

The net assets of the country's nine mandatory private pension funds increased by 49.8% on the year to 8.5 billion lei at the end of August. The number of contributors to the funds rose by an annual 5.82% to 5.69 million.

Romania's eleven voluntary pension funds had 542.44 million lei in net assets at the end of August, up by an annual 36.6%. The number of contributors grew 14% year-on-year to 281,074 at the end of August, CSSPP said.

Romania has a population of over 19 million.
