The expanded passenger terminal spanning 12,500 sq m has doubled the airport's processing capacity to 800 passengers per hour, Oradea Airport said in a social media post on Saturday. The airport also added 320 new parking spaces as part of the investment project for the expansion and overhaul of the terminal.

The project was carried out by a Romanian consortium comprising construction companies SSAB, Bemel, and ACA Zoork, Ionut Boldan, project manager at Oradea Airport, said during a press conference held as part of the inauguration ceremony. The project was co-financed through the European Regional Development Fund.

In April 2023, the Bihor county council said that the Romanian consortium had won a contract for the expansion of the passenger terminal at the Oradea airport.

Last month, Poland’s flag carrier LOT said it will offer flights from Warsaw to Oradea starting on June 3.
