The first LNG/CNG filling station will become operational by 2025 and will be located at a Petrom filling station in the county of Ilfov, OMV Petrom said in a press release.
Opening more filling stations of this kind will depend on the evolution of the LNG and CNG demand in Romania, the company said.
LNG/CNG freight transportation generates about 15% less CO2 emissions, 50% less SOx emissions and almost no heavy particulate emissions, OMV Petrom said.
Vulcangas Romania operates a network of gas stations and storage facilities in Romania. It is owned by Societa Italiana Gas Liquidi, which is a supplier of natural gas and LPG solutions in Italy.
Austria's OMV Aktiengesellschaft holds a 51.157% stake in OMV Petrom. The Romanian economy ministry owns 20.698% and 28.145% is free float on the Bucharest bourse and the London Stock Exchange.
Shares in blue-chip OMV Petrom traded 1.01% higher at 0.549 lei ($0.12/0.11 euro) by 0910 CET on Wednesday on the Bucharest bourse.
