BUCHAREST (Romania), November 12 (SeeNews) – Romania's unemployment rate rose to 7.1% in October from 6.9% a month earlier, the government's employment agency, ANOFM, said on Thursday.

In October, the southwestern county of Mehedinti registered the highest unemployment rate in Romania, 13.2%. The capital Bucharest and the Ilfov county, in southern Romania, had the lowest rate, of 2.1%.
The average unemployment rate in Romania fell to a 17-year low of 4.0% last year from 4.3% in 2007. In 1991, the average unemployment rate was 1.8%. Romania's workforce is estimated at 9.3 million out of a population of 21.5 million.
