The company's operating profit decreased by 4.79% on the year to 2.518 billion lei in the nine months through September, Nuclearelectrica said in an interim financial statement filed with the Bucharest Stock Exchange, BVB, on Monday.
The decrease in Nuclearelectrica's operating profit was mainly a result of a 135.9% annual hike in the cost of its contribution to the Energy Transition Fund.
Operating income rose 15.3% on the year to 5.659 billion lei in the first nine months of 2023, supported by a 15.5% annual jump in the weighted average price of the electricity sold during the period. The hike in the weighted average price of sold electricity led to a 14.8% annual increase in electricity sales revenues, which reached 3.547 billion lei in January-September.
Cernavoda NPP generated about 7,622 GWh of electricity in the first nine months of 2023, up 2.9% on the year.
Nuclearelectrica invested 455.5 million lei in the first nine months, representing 64% of the 710.3 billion lei earmarked for investment in 2023. The investment programme for the year was decreased in October from 1.345 billion lei.
The company's total assets rose to 12.494 billion lei at end-September from 11.792 billion lei at the end of last year, while total liabilities rose to 1.265 billion lei from 1.257 billion lei.
Nuclearelectrica's net profit soared 166.8% to 2.764 billion lei last year.
The Cernavoda plant, located in southeastern Romania, has two reactors of 700 MW each, which meet roughly a fifth of the country's electricity needs. The Romanian state owns an 82.49% stake in the company.
Nuclearelectrica's shares traded 0.1% lower at 47.6 lei by 1156 CET on November 16 on the BVB.
