"[...] Cernavoda nuclear power plant’s Unit 2 will be shut down in a controlled manner in order to repair a defect on an impulse line related to a measurement instrument situated in the reactor building," Nuclearelectrica said in a statement filed with the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
The unit’s systems operate in compliance with the project, without affecting the nuclear safety of the reactor, the staff, the population and the environment, it added.
Unit 2 will be reconnected to the grid after the repair works are completed.
Blue chip Nuclearelectrica operates the country's sole nuclear power plant, located in Cernavoda, in Romania's southeast. The Cernavoda plant has two reactors of 700 megawatts each, which cover roughly a fifth of the country's power needs.
