April 9 (SeeNews) - Romanian energy company Monsson announced on Monday that it has connected the largest battery storage system in the country to the national power grid, totaling 24 MWh.
The 24 MWh unit is the first phase of a planned 216 MWh project to be completed by year-end, Monsson said in a press release.

The battery storage is part of a hybrid renewable energy project that also includes an existing 50 MW wind farm and a 35 MW solar photovoltaic project under construction, the company said. The unit was built by Monsson, with batteries sourced from Romanian company Prime Batteries Technology.
"The investment was done on equity with the goal to prove the idea of increasing the renewable energy penetration in national grids, through renewable energy hybridisation concept, consisting of photovoltaic, wind and storage," said Sebastian Enache, member of the board at Monsson.
Monsson has been present in Romania's renewable energy sector for over 17 years, having a portfolio of over 5 GW of wind and photovoltaic projects.
