Sales of food, beverages and tobacco increased by an annual 2.1% during January-April, non-food sales rose 12.2% and sales of fuels climbed 4.2%, the statistical office said in a statement.
Based on unadjusted data, retail sales climbed 8.5% on the year between January and April. In April alone, Romania's retail sales increased by an adjusted 9.5% year-on-year.
Compared with the previous month, the adjusted retail turnover volume in April inched up by 0.8% thanks to 2.3% higher sales of food, beverages and tobacco. The sales of non-food products edged up 0.7%, while the sales of automotive fuels declined down by 2.2%. The figures do not include trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles.
