December 16 (SeeNews) - Romanian mandatory pension fund Interamerican Pensii, managed by Dutch Eureko’s Romanian unit, will take over the pension fund of Romania's Bancpost, majority-owned by Greece's EFG Eurobank, Bucharest-based daily Ziarul Financiar reported on Tuesday.

The value of the deal could reach several millions of euro, Ziarul Financiar quoted unnamed market sources as saying.

The sources said that the negotiations between two funds started this summer and will be completed soon.

The information was not confirmed by Interamerican Pensii and Bancpost officials, the daily said.

However, Interamerican Pensii director general Besim Jawad told Ziarul Financiar that the fund eyes acquisitions but did not elaborate.

"We held talks for possible mergers with other funds. There are some opportunities on the market now,” Jawad said.

If Interamerican Pensii acquires Bancpost's pension fund, it will have around 264,000 clients and will be the fifth-largest fund in the country, Ziarul Financiar said.
