Romania's Inflation Speeds to 1.06% M/M, 7.39% Y/Y in October, Fails Expectations

November 11 (SeeNews) - Romania's monthly inflation accelerated to 1.06% in October from 0.4% in September, failing to meet analyst expectations of a slower rise, data from the country's statistics institute, INS, indicated on Tuesday.

Annual inflation speeded to 7.39% last month from 7.3% in September.

Three out of four analysts polled by SeeNews earlier this month saw Romania's monthly consumer price inflation speeding up in October to between 0.4%-0.7%. They projected an annual rise in consumer prices of between 6.5%-7.0% for October.

The average monthly consumer price inflation in the ten months through October was 0.6%, compared to 0.5% in the same period of 2007, the INS said.

Romania's end-year inflation quickened to 6.57% in 2007 from 4.87% in 2006, missing the central bank's target band of 3.0%-5.0%.
