January 27 (SeeNews) - Traffic through Bucharest international airport Henri Coanda rose by 12% in 2008, to 5,005,000 passengers, Romania's Transport Ministry said.

August was the busiest month at the airport with 524,100 passengers handled, and January was the month with biggest annual growth in passenger numbers, 30%, the ministry said in a statement late on Monday.

Domestic traffic via Henri Coanda saw a 21% increase last year, to 497,208 passengers.

A plane was taking off or landing on either of the two runways of Henri Coanda every seven minutes on the average in 2008.
