Romania's energy resources, including imports, totalled 24.7 million TOE in the first nine months of the year, inching down by 1.9% on the year, INS said in a preliminary statement. Imports amounted to 11.2 million TOE, down by an annual 5.1%.
Romania's electricity output and imports totalled 48.83 TWh in the January-September period, up 1.6% on the year.
In the nine months through September, thermal power plants generated some 12.67 TWh of electricity, down 20.3% on the year, while the output of hydroelectric power stations jumped by an annual 39.6% to 14.99 TWh.
Electricity generation in Romania’s sole nuclear plant rose by 2.8% to 8.28 TWh.
On the renewable energy front, wind farms generated some 5.56 TWh, edging up by an annual 2.5%, while solar plants generated 1.39 TWh, falling by 7.6% on the year.
Romania’s electricity exports rose 68.4% on the year, reaching 8.6 TWh in the first nine months of 2023, while imports fell by an annual 8.1% to 5.9 TWh.
The country produced 2.1 million TOE of crude oil, down 4% on the year, and 1.91 million TOE of coal, down 16%, during January-Septmber. Natural gas production rose 3.1% year-on-year, reaching 5.59 million TOE.
Romania's energy production fell by an annual 2.6% to 17.82 million TOE in 2022.
