November 13 (SeeNews) - Romania's energy production fell 3.2% year-on-year to 15.02 million tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE) in the first nine months of the year, provisional data from the country's statistical office, INS, showed on Wednesday.
Romania's own electricity output plus the country's imports rose by 11.8% year-on-year to 11.1 TWh in January-September, INS said in a statement.
The country’s electricity exports fell by 40.7% year-on-year to 2.58TWh, while imports surged by 183% to 3.35 TWh.
Thermal power plants generated 1.71 TWh in the first nine months of 2019, down 9.1% on the year, while hydroelectric power output fell 12.7% to 1.3 TWh.
The production of the country's sole nuclear power plant Cernavoda fell by 0.8% on the year to 7.35 TWh in January-August.
Electricity generated from wind farms in January-August 2019 rose 4.2% to 4.88 TWh.
Photovoltaic power stations generated 3.35 TWh in January-September, up 3.1% on the year.
Final electricity consumption in Romania fell by an annual 0.1% to 4.14 TWh in January-September.
Romania produced 2.5 million TOE of crude oil in January-September, down by 1.2% on the year, and 2.8 million TOE of coal, 5.2% less than in the same period of last year. The country also produced 6.05 million TOE of natural gas, down 2.3% year-on-year.
TOE is the rounded-off amount of energy that would be produced by burning one metric tonne of crude oil.
Romania's energy production fell by an annual 1.6% to 20.96 million TOE in 2018.
