Romania's energy resources in 2022, including imports, totalled 33.5 million TOE, inching down by 0.6% on the year, INS said in a statement. Imports amounted to 15.68 million TOE, up by an annual 1.8%.
Romania's electricity output and imports totalled 64.16 TWh in 2022, down 4.4% on the year.
During 2022, thermal power plants generated some 21.58 TWh of electricity, down 2.9% on the year, while the output of hydroelectric power stations dropped by an annual 17.9% to 14.17 TWh.
Electricity generation in Romania’s sole nuclear plant inched down by 1.7% to 11.09 TWh,
On the renewable energy front, wind farms generated some 7 TWh, up by an annual 6.5%, while solar plants generated 1.78 TWh, increasing by 4.2% on the year.
Final electricity consumption dropped by an annual 7.2% to 51.7 TWh.
Romania’s electricity exports jumped by an annual 23.8% to 7.33 TWh in 2022, while imports rose 5.4% on the year to 8.55 TWh.
The country produced 2.92 million TOE of crude oil, down 5.8% on the year, and 3.07 million TOE of coal, up 2%, during 2022. Natural gas production edged down 1.1% year-on-year, reaching 7.13 million TOE.
Romania's energy production rose 1.7% to 18.47 million TOE in 2021.
A TOE is the rounded-off amount of energy that would be produced by burning one metric tonne of crude oil.
