Romania’s Damen Shipyards Galati builds nuclear cargo vessel

The 99.5 metre-long Nuclear Cargo Vessel (NCV) 1600 will transport spent nuclear fuel from Swedish nuclear power plants to SKB's facilities in Oskarshamn and Forsmark, Damen said in a statement on Thursday.

Dutch-based Damen Shipyards Gorinchem provided the design and the major equipment for the vessel while Romania's Damen Shipyards Galati built and finished it.

The NCV can transport up to 12 nuclear waste containers but also standard cargo containers or special trucks.
