“We have more than 2,800 employees at fixed-term contracts, including some 600 which expire at the end of December and we will decide about them at the beginning of next month, and for the remaining contracts it is far too early to decide,” the chief of Dacia’s press office, Silviu Sepciu, told SeeNews.
The company now employs a total of 14,700 people.
Sepiu also said that Dacia has hired more than a thousand of people in the past two years, and the fixed-term labour contracts of more than 800 of them have been transformed into permanent contracts so far this year. Another 100 fixed-term contracts will be transformed into permanent in December.
The international car industry is facing tough times in the midst of a global financial crisis, as both market demand and consumer confidence are falling.
Dacia, a unit of France's Renault, halted vehicle production from November 20 to December 7 after stopping production for two days in October and for two days in November, reacting to drastic falls in car sales worldwide.
