September 8 (SeeNews) - Romanian low-cost carrier Blue Air said on Tuesday it will launch direct flights between Bucharest and Vienna on September 14 to help passengers of its insolvent Slovakia-based peer Sky Europe.
Blue Air will fly the route once a day seven days a week in the summer and will add a second flight on workdays only in the winter period, Blue Air said in a statement.
The Romanian company operates flights to Austria, Germany, Portugal, Cyprus, the UK, Belgium, France, Greece, Italy, Spain, as well as domestic flights. Blue Air (www.blueair-web.com) launched services in December 2004.
Blue Air said earlier it plans to carry 1.7 million passengers in 2009, up from 1.11 million last year. The company sees its turnover rising to 170 million euro ($245 million) this year from 124 million euro in 2008.
The company has a fleet of nine Boeing 737s, of the 300s, 400s and 800s series.
