October 7 (SeeNews) - Romania's retail sales index fell by 10.6% on the year in the first eight months of 2009, data of the National Statistics Institute, INS, showed on Wednesday.
The figures are seasonally and working-day adjusted, INS said in a statement.
In August alone the retail sales index was 0.4% higher than in July but was 12.1% lower on the year.

NOTE: Vehicle sales include sales of passenger cars and other motor vehicles, as well as maintenance and repair revenue.
Romania's retail sales index increased by 13% in 2008, compared to a 17.8% rise in 2007.
