November 4 (SeeNews) - The Romanian share indices notched up hefty gains in higher turnover on Tuesday, as optimism swept the market, brokers said.

Romanian Stocks Soar in Higher Turnover as Market Turns Sharply Positive

The BET-FI index, which tracks Romania's five regional investment funds, SIFs, paced the gains, soaring by 14.04% to 13,134.63 points. The blue-chip BET index of the Bucharest Stock Exchange, BVB, rose 7.13% to 3,177.06.

The composite BET-C index closed 5.85% higher at 2,370.83. The ROTX index of Romania's 15 most liquid stocks, a joint index of the BVB and the Vienna Stock Exchange, was up by 5.12% to 7,343.71.

"The stark falls that we had last month are the main factor behind these important rises. A rebound was more than expected. The positive outlook prompted investors to seize the moment and start buying," one broker told SeeNews.

“There is some speculation in all this because it’s widely known that the severe effects of the crisis and further bad news are inevitable and then those short-term investors will mark their profits.”

The outcome of the U.S. presidential vote on Tuesday is another important factor, which will give the markets direction in the short-term, the broker added.

BVB's turnover increased to 27.1 million lei ($9.3 million/7.3 million euro) from 19.8 million lei on Monday. The number of shares traded on Tuesday rose to 136 million from 95 million on Monday.

SIF 2 Moldova rose by 14.23% to 0.57 lei in the day’s highest turnover of 4.1 million lei. SIF 5 Oltenia jumped 14.29% to 0.68 lei in the day’s second highest turnover of 4.0 million lei on Tuesday. SIF 3 Transilvania gained 12.55% to 0.305 lei in the day's third largest turnover of 2.8 million lei.

Blue-chip oil and gas group Petrom jumped 11.11% to 0.2 lei on 2.7 million lei turnover, while blue-chip oil refinery Rompetrol Rafinare shot up by 15% to 0.0276 lei on 1.2 million lei turnover. Blue-chip bank BRD rose 8.05% to 8.05 lei on 2.4 million lei turnover.

Romania’s largest fertiliser maker Azomures soared by 14.81% to 0.341 lei on deals worth a total of 1.3 million lei. Its peer Amonil ended 15% higher at 0.0322 lei in 562,000 turnover. Both companies are expected to show a solid January-September performance when they report earnings on November 14.

The BET-XT index, which tracks the 25 most liquid blue-chip companies, including the SIFs, climbed by 8.15% to 299.56 points. The BET-NG, which includes companies from the energy sector and utilities, jumped by 10.66% to 420.68.

Rasdaq-C, the composite index of the RASDAQ over-the-counter market, added 0.94% to 2,465.70. Turnover on RASDAQ rose to 1.6 million lei from 1.3 million lei on Monday.
