November 10 (SeeNews) - The Romanian share indices extended gains on Monday for a third day running in an attempt to recover the losses piled last month, brokers said.

Romanian Stock Indices Extend Rally

The BET-FI index, which tracks Romania's five regional investment funds, SIFs, paced the gains, jumping 14.25% to 16,245.70 points. The blue-chip BET index of the Bucharest Stock Exchange, BVB, rose 6.13% to 3,365.23.

The composite BET-C index closed 6.27% higher at 2,533.24. The ROTX index of Romania's 15 most liquid stocks, a joint index of the BVB and the Vienna Stock Exchange, was up 4.6% to 7,668.13.

"The rise of the SIFs is in tune with the global markets, but it is even stronger because of the sharp falls the investment funds suffered last month," one broker told SeeNews.

Global stock markets gained ground on Monday, after China announced a $586 billion (457 billion euro) stimulus plan for its economy.

“There is no particular reason for these gains [on the Romanian bourse]. For a week now we have been observing attempts for recovery. The number of sellers is much lower and they are much more cautious than they were in October,” the broker said.

BVB's turnover fell to 29 million lei ($9.9 million/7.7 million euro) from 31.4 million lei on Friday. The number of shares traded on Monday rose to 110.8 million from 95 million on Friday.

Blue-chip oil and gas group Petrom gained 8.46% to 0.218 lei in the day’s highest turnover of 3.5 million lei.

“Petrom is on a recovery path, plus at the moment global oil prices regain ground, the raw material prices started rising after China announced its stimulus plan, and all this has boosted Petrom’s price,” the broker added.

SIF 4 Muntenia jumped 13.28% to 0.725 lei in the day's second largest turnover of 3.3 million lei. Blue-chip bank BRD surged 9.25% to 9.45 lei in the day’s third highest turnover of 3.1 million lei.

SIF 3 Transilvania was the biggest gainer among the SIFs, soaring by 14.92% to 0.362 lei on 2.5 million lei turnover. Blue-chip oil refinery Rompetrol Rafinare rose by 10.2% to 0.027 lei on 943,000 lei turnover.

Romania’s largest fertiliser maker Azomures jumped 8.14% to 0.319 lei in 1.4 million lei turnover. Its peer Amonil went up by 7.41% to 0.029 lei in 157,000 lei turnover.

The BET-XT index, which tracks the 25 most liquid blue-chip companies, including the SIFs, gained 7.8% to 331.13 points. The BET-NG, which includes companies from the energy sector and utilities, rose 8.28% to 440.39.

Rasdaq-C, the composite index of the RASDAQ over-the-counter market, edged down 0.17% to 2,446.49. Turnover on RASDAQ jumped to 12.9 million lei from 1.6 million lei on Friday, as a total of 117.5 shares, or 14.1% of Romanian hotel operator Compania Hoteliera Intercontinental Romania (CHIR) changed hands for 11.7 million lei .
