December 16 (SeeNews) - Bucharest stock indices advanced on Wednesday in increased liquidity, brokers said.

The blue-chip BET index of the Bucharest Stock Exchange, BVB, edged up 2.53% to 4,906.92 points. The BET-FI index, which tracks the country’s five regional investment funds, the SIFs, jumped 2.49% to 24,769.24 points.

The composite BET-C index ended 2.04% up at 2,816.70. The ROTX index of Romania's 15 most liquid stocks, a joint index of the BVB and the Vienna Stock Exchange, added 2.75% to 10,189.93.

The BET index showed no significant developments during the day and rose sharply by the end of the day on the back of aggressive buying on the banking segment, Prime Transaction brokerage said in a daily stock market report on its website.

SIFs rose at the opening of the trading session as some buyers appeared. The index fell to Tuesday’s level later in the day and came back to opening levels by the end of the trading session, the brokerage said.

BVB's turnover jumped to 67.5 million lei ($23 million/16 million euro) on Wednesday, including 34 million lei in bonds, from 40.5 million lei on Tuesday. The volume of traded shares grew to 60.7 million from 34.5 million on Tuesday.

Blue-chip bank Banca Transilvania closed by 5.26% higher to 2.4 lei in the day's largest turnover of 7.0 million lei. SIF 5 Oltenia gained 2.33% to 1.32 lei on deals worth a total of 5.4 million lei, Wednesday’s second highest turnover.

SIF 2 Moldova ended 1.72% up at 1.18 lei in the session’s third largest turnover of 4.67 million lei.

Austria’s Erste appreciated 1.32% to 115 lei in deals worth 3.07 million lei. SIF 1 Banat Crisana added 2.56% to 1.2 lei in deals worth 2.3 million lei, while SIF 3 Transilvania closed 2.96% up at 0.695 lei in 2.23 million lei turnover.

The other blue-chip bank BRD climbed 2.21% to 13.9 lei in 1.59 million lei turnover. Blue-chip gas transmission company Transgaz rose 0.63% to 160.5 lei in deals worth 1.55 million lei. Blue-chip oil and gas group OMV Petrom was up 3.19% to 0.259 lei in 866,849 lei turnover.

The BET-XT index, which tracks the 25 most liquid companies on the bourse, including the SIFs, ended 2.66% higher at 484.30 points. The BET-NG, which includes companies from the energy sector and utilities, rose 1.10% to 595.77 points.

Rasdaq-C, the composite index of the over-the-counter market RASDAQ, rose 0.35% to 2,225.55. Turnover on the RASDAQ grew to 4.7 million lei on Wednesday from 3.5 million lei on Tuesday as 47.15% shares of leasing company Metropolitan Leasing changed hands for a 4.3 million lei in a single transaction.
