December 23 (SeeNews) - The Romanian leu depreciated versus the euro on Tuesday in increased volatility, interbank FX data indicated.

Romanian leu weakens vs euro

The local currency closed at 4.4823/4873 per euro compared to 4.4684/4735 per euro on Monday.

The leu changed hands between 4.4710 and 4.4850 against the euro during the trading session, real-time interbank FX data published by local portal Conso.ro indicated.

Romania's central bank, BNR, set its reference exchange rate at 4.4758 lei per euro, versus 4.4674 lei per euro on Monday. For the U.S. dollar, BNR set its reference exchange rate at 3.6595 lei compared to 3.6433 lei a day earlier.

Turnover on the Romanian interbank leu deposit market rose to 580 million lei on Monday from 247 million lei on Friday.

Interest rates on overnight leu deposits were 0.06%/0.51% compared to 0.06%/0.49% on Monday.
