BUCHAREST (Romania), October 16 (SeeNews) – The Romanian leu depreciated further against the euro on Tuesday in calm trading, dealers said.

The leu closed at 4.5760/4.5780 per euro compared to 4.5720/5750 on Monday and 4.5650/5700 on Friday.

"The trading session was very calm and the leu changed hands between 4.5690 and 4.5799 per euro," a local dealer told SeeNews.

Romania's central bank, BNR, set its reference exchange rate at 4.5693 lei per euro on Tuesday, compared to 4.5687 on Monday. For the U.S. dollar, BNR set the reference exchange rate at 3.5143 lei versus 3.5248 lei on Monday.

Turnover on the Romanian interbank leu deposit market increased to 1.51 billion lei on Monday from 1.37 billion on Friday. The central bank will issue Tuesday’s turnover figure on Wednesday.

Interest rates on overnight leu deposits edged down to 5.13%/5.63% from 5.14%/5.64% on Monday.
