October 25 (SeeNews) - The Romanian leu gained ground versus the euro on Thursday in calm trading, dealers said.

The currency closed at 4.5600/5650 per euro compared to 4.5750/5770 on Wednesday.

It opened at 4.5740 per euro and changed hands between 4.5600 and 4.5745 during the trading session, a local dealer told SeeNews.

Romania's central bank, BNR, set its reference exchange rate at 4.5640 lei per euro on Thursday, compared to 4.5754 lei per euro on Wednesday. For the U.S. dollar, BNR set the reference exchange rate at 3.5078 lei versus 3.5380 lei on Wednesday.

Turnover on the Romanian interbank leu deposit market rose to 1.48 billion lei on Wednesday from 0.89 billion lei on Tuesday. The central bank will issue Thursday's turnover figure on Friday.

Interest rates on overnight leu deposits fell to 4.96%/5.46% from 5.01%/5.51% on Wednesday.
