April 24 (SeeNews) - The Romanian leu gained ground versus the euro on Thursday, local dealers said.
The local currency closed at 4.4520/4535 per euro, compared to 4.4656/4706 on Wednesday.
The leu opened at 4.4660 and changed hands between 4.4510 and 4.4669 against the euro during the trading session, a local dealer told SeeNews.
Romania's central bank, BNR, set its reference exchange rate at 4.4625 per euro, compared to 4.4698 lei per euro on Wednesday. For the U.S. dollar, BNR set its reference exchange rate at 3.2273 lei versus 3.2292 lei on Wednesday.
Turnover on the Romanian interbank leu deposit market decreased to 2.75 billion lei on Wednesday from 2.92 billion lei on Tuesday. The central bank will issue Thursday's turnover figure on Friday.
Interest rates on overnight leu deposits fell to 2.81%/3.31% from 3.93%/4.43% on Wednesday.
