It opened at 4.5580/5630 per euro and changed hands between 4.5490/5590 and 4.5617/5637during the trading session, a local dealer told SeeNews, adding that the intraday high was the leu’s strongest level so far this month.
Romania's central bank, BNR, set its reference exchange rate at 4.5538 lei per euro on Friday, compared to 4.5640 lei per euro on Thursday. For the U.S. dollar, BNR set the reference exchange rate at 3.5200 lei versus 3.5078 lei on Thursday.
Turnover on the Romanian interbank leu deposit market went down to 1.33 billion lei on Thursday from 1.48 billion lei on Wednesday. The central bank will issue Friday's turnover figure on Monday.
Interest rates on overnight leu deposits fell slightly to 4.93%/5.43% from 4.96%/5.46% on Thursday.
