The currency closed at 4.5130/5160 per euro compared to 4.5210/5260 on Monday and 4.5280/5300 on Friday.
The leu opened at around 4.5300 per euro, its lowest value on Tuesday, and gained ground during the trading session continuing the appreciation trend from the last few days, a local dealer told SeeNews.
Romania's central bank, BNR, set its reference exchange rate at 4.5171 lei per euro on Tuesday, compared to 4.5209 lei per euro on Monday. For the U.S. dollar, BNR set the reference exchange rate at 3.5306 lei versus 3.5336 lei on Monday.
Turnover on the Romanian interbank leu decreased to 1.12 billion lei on Monday from 1.54 billion lei on Friday. The central bank will issue Tuesday 's turnover figure on Wednesday.
Interest rates on overnight leu deposits inched down to 4.99%/5.49% from 5.00%/5.50% on Monday.
