The talks between the political formations and President Traian Basescu on Friday offered no hint of how Romania’s future government will shape up or who will head it. The four parties that won parliamentary seats at Sunday's elections are expected to start their coalition talks during the weekend, as none of them won an absolute majority in the vote.
Romania's central bank, BNR, set its reference exchange rate, used for statistical purposes, at 3.8545 lei per euro on Friday, compared to 3.8431 lei on Thursday. For the U.S. dollar, the reference exchange rate was set at 3.0210 lei versus Thursday's 3.0368 lei.
Interest rates on overnight leu deposits fell to an average of 12.19%/13.27% on Friday, compared to 12.59%/13.59% on Thursday.
Turnover on the interbank leu deposit market rose to 1.722 billion lei on Thursday from some 1.454 billion lei on Wednesday. The BNR will issue Friday's figures on Monday.
