The leu ended at 3.8200/8270 per euro versus 3.7690/7770 on Friday, one dealer told SeeNews.
The Polish zloty, the Hungarian forint and the Czech crown, among other emerging markets' currencies, were depreciating against the single currency as the euro advanced against the U.S. dollar, she said.
Romania's central bank, BNR, set its reference exchange rate, used for statistical purposes, at 3.8090 lei per euro on Tuesday, compared to 3.7794 lei on Friday. For the U.S. dollar, the reference exchange rate was set at 3.0123 lei versus Friday's 2.9387 lei.
Interest rates on overnight leu deposits were set at an average of 12.94%/14.13% on Tuesday, compared to 13.69%/15.03% on Friday.
Turnover on the interbank leu deposit market rose to 1.5 billion lei on Friday from some 1.3 billion lei on Thursday. The BNR will issue Tuesday's figures on Wednesday.
