November 9 (SeeNews) - The Romanian leu fell versus the euro on Friday in a sluggish trading session, local dealers said.

Romanian leu ends weaker vs euro

The currency ended at 4.5280/5310 per euro compared to 4.5190/5240 on Thursday.

The leu opened at around 4.52 per euro, hit an intraday low of 4.53 at noon and then traded around this level by the end of the session, a local dealer told SeeNews.

Romania's central bank, BNR, set its reference exchange rate at 4.5220 lei per euro on Friday, compared to 4.5156 lei per euro on Thursday. For the U.S. dollar, BNR set the reference exchange rate at 3.5545 lei versus 3.5451 lei on Thursday.

Turnover on the Romanian interbank leu deposit market increased to 1.02 billion lei on Thursday from 892 million lei on Wednesday. The central bank will issue Friday's turnover figure on Monday.

Interest rates on overnight leu deposits climbed to 5.21%/5.71%to from 5.17%/5.67% on Thursday.
